The goal of Clean School Bus HGB region is to reduce
children’s exposure to diesel exhaust and reduce the amount of
air pollution created by diesel school buses. Over 24 million children
ride the school bus everyday, while buses are the safest way for children
to get to school it is not the healthiest. Clean School Bus HGB aims
to reduce pollution from buses through partners from business, education,
transportation, and public health organizations.
Clean School Bus HGB is serving the following counties: Brazoria,
Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller.
These counties are currently in non-attainment for air quality for
air pollutant ozone.
The HGB Clean School Bus Program's activities include:
- Administering the HGB Clean School Bus Program
- Attending community and outreach events, educating
the general public
- Hosting workshops to provide a forum to discuss clean
school bus technology topics
- Providing a quarterly newsletter (near future)
- Providing information to school districts about products,
technologies, fuels, and funding
- Securing private sponsorships to help support the
program
- Supporting federal and state funding initiatives for
bus projects
- Surveying school district fleets and collecting information
